How can we help?
Quick answers to the questions we hear most. Can't find yours? Write to a real person at [email protected].
Getting started
What is BUOKO?
BUOKO is an independent email service from the EU. It's private email for people (no phone number, no real name) and affordable email on your own domain for small businesses.
Can I sign up today?
Yes. Sign-up is open to everyone, with no daily limit. Create your free address at buoko.com/mail/sign-up or in the BUOKO app. Your address ends in @buoko.com or @buako.com.
Do I need a phone number or my real name?
No. You just pick an address and a password. Instead of asking for your phone, we limit how many free addresses one internet connection can make and how much a new address can send.
Which apps can I use?
Use BUOKO on the web at buoko.com/mail, or in the BUOKO apps for iPhone and Android. You can also use apps like Apple Mail, Outlook or Thunderbird through IMAP, with an app password for each device.
Free plan
Is the free plan really free?
Yes. No ads and no price. Just sign in at least once every 14 days: after 14 days without a sign-in, a free address goes to sleep and new mail is refused until you sign in again (everything you already have stays). After a year asleep it's deleted, and the address is never given to anyone else. Accounts made before 26 October 2026 don't sleep.
Will someone else get my old address?
Never. If an account is deleted, its address is retired for good, because it may still receive things like password resets for other accounts.
Are there ads on the free plan?
No. BUOKO has no ads. We never use your email content for ads or sell your data.
What are the free plan limits?
1 GB of storage. Send to 25 people a day (up to 10 per hour). 3 aliases and 4 temp emails (temp emails last up to 7 days). Attachments up to 10 MB. Need more? See the paid plans.
Your account and security
I forgot my password. What now?
Use one of your recovery codes, or your backup email if you added one. Because we don't have your phone number or real name, please keep your recovery codes somewhere safe. If you lose both, we may not be able to prove the account is yours.
Can I turn on two-factor sign-in?
Yes. Turn on two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app. Keep your recovery codes somewhere safe too, and add a backup email so you can get back in if you lose your phone.
What are app passwords?
Separate passwords for other email apps, like Apple Mail or Thunderbird. Create one for each device, so your main BUOKO password stays private.
Is BUOKO end-to-end encrypted?
No. BUOKO is not end-to-end encrypted. Your mail is encrypted while it travels and stored on our servers in Germany. We never sell your mail or use it for ads. Read the full, honest picture on what we can and can't see.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings → Delete my account. Or email us from your BUOKO address. See how account deletion works. We delete your mail and data as described in our privacy policy.
Someone is sending spam from a BUOKO address.
Please forward it to [email protected] with "Abuse" in the subject. We take abuse seriously and act quickly.
Business
How do I use my own domain?
Upgrade to Business ($6.99 a month or $69.99 a year) in the BUOKO app for Android. You get one mailbox on your own domain, like [email protected]. We show you step by step which DNS records to copy to your domain registrar, and Domain Doctor checks them. You can try the free Domain Doctor check right now. More on the business page.
How do I move my old emails to BUOKO?
In the app, go to Settings > Move to BUOKO. You can import old emails from Gmail (using an app password), Yahoo, iCloud and other IMAP providers. There's also a guide for forwarding your Gmail to BUOKO.
Can I import from Outlook or Hotmail?
No. Microsoft blocks password access, so Outlook and Hotmail mail can't be imported. Instead, forward new Outlook mail to your BUOKO address. You can import your contacts from a CSV or vCard file.
Billing
Which plans are there?
Free ($0, for good). Personal ($2.99 a month or $29.99 a year). Plus ($4.99 a month or $49.99 a year). Business ($6.99 a month or $69.99 a year). Compare them on the pricing page.
How do I pay?
Paid plans are bought in the BUOKO app for Android, through Google Play. Google shows the price in your currency, with local taxes, before you pay.
I use an iPhone or the web. Can I upgrade?
Plans are bought in the Android app. Once you have a plan, it works everywhere: on the web, on iPhone and on Android. There's no App Store purchase.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
Yes. Cancel anytime in your Google Play subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Google, under Google's refund rules. Our terms cover the details.
